ANOTHER DAY IN THE LIFE

Here’s another peek behind the scenes of our typical morning routines (pics courtesy of our roving eye / Tap Room Managrrr! ‘Manda). Voyeurism is fun!

10689417_713828458702810_8165285906216626131_nWe self distribute our beer throughout NYC. So the first order of the day is to spread out all the accounts we need to deliver to to sort out the best route.

10610478_713829018702754_4144161122251241096_nNext: Our Distribution Team Extraordinaire Of Eric and Dave get them kegs loaded.

10590582_713829122036077_7258231331074680889_nEasy… Easy…! FYI the average filled keg (15.5 gallons) weighs 160 lbs. Here Dave is delicately plucking out over 2500 lbs of beer.

10610870_713829238702732_1351101226418593474_nSome smaller accounts and restaurants prefer smaller 5 gallon kegs AKA “sixtels”. Dave is grabbing those to be delivered on this day.

10698455_713829328702723_2494362702032730864_nThe sea of kegs eventually gets sorted…

10712839_713828778702778_6059266845813722597_n…and makes it’s way onto the “Starship” otherwise know as the Beersmiths Mobile.

10348998_713828505369472_1037387145219848720_nMeanwhile! Team Sales (here we see Mike and Peter) getting their samples ready to bring to prospective new accounts, as well as current accounts that wish to try our latest releases.

10420035_713828622036127_6593313201360970035_nHead of Sales Mark hits the streets too! Beersmiths need to wear many hats.

1901804_713828565369466_5714105056823778869_nBottles sanitized and ready to be filled by Team Sales. (You didn’t hear this from us but expect to see an IIPA released in 16 oz bottles in over a months time… of course done right in our Astoria brewery. Shhhhh!)

10301368_713828695369453_507670388752621431_nMIke gets the paperwork ready. Did you know we have an office?

10407967_713829615369361_4021243575049919902_nAll the while, the brewery is humming along. Here Director of Brewery Operations Brian gets the necessary hoses organized to transfer today’s brew to its respective fermenter (in this case we were brewing up the first “ERIC” of the season. This batch promises a few surprises… shhhhh!)

1960767_713829545369368_2512890687625089849_oOne task that never ends is cleaning kegs. Here Sam is taking care of business in preparation for kegging up a fresh batch of DEAN (another insider tidbit – we’ve upped the hops in DEAN quite a bit in our latest batch. Hope you like).

10407690_713829658702690_276847546621152946_nThere’s Sam still cranking away! And Head Brewer Rich looks to be taking a break from transferring NIGEL to one of two grundies (to be inoculated by numerous wild yeast strains) by whipping out the ‘ol hoola hoop for some waist slimming exercises. Well no, that’s actually a CO2 hose, but trust us, he’s got a passion for hoola hooping!

10411166_713829725369350_8277206524514574779_nRich pitching some wild yeast for NIGELs secondary fermentation. Our second “grundy” will be pitched with two other strains we’ve been developing, all to be blended for final release (date to be announed, and most likely, in bottles. Ahem!)

Whew, by this point it is still well before noon. A big brewday still to come, with all its associated tasks. Not to mention the prep work to do it all over again tomorrow.
